Welcome to the
Mental Health Services Division
|
|
The Mental Health Services Division is dedicated to delivering
quality behavioral health care through a variety of programs and
services aimed at empowering the consumer to improve his or her quality of
life. It is the mission of the Mental Health Services Division
to provide comprehensive diagnostics, treatment, prevention, and
community education services to the consumers of the catchment area.
The
orientation of the Mental Health Services Division is to utilize its
resources in ways that are responsive to a variety of community
mental health needs and to allow for a wide provision of services to
individuals across the life span. Individuals are assisted
with accessing services which are outside the scope of the Mental
Health Services Division.
The
Mental Health Services Division provides a continuum of services
from short-term therapy, child and adolescent therapy which includes
intensive in-home services, 24-hour emergency crisis intervention
services, psychiatric evaluation and medication treatment, through
case management, psychosocial rehabilitation, as well as housing and
employment assistance for seriously mentally ill adults. This
well organized, highly integrated delivery system serves to maximize
continuity of care to its consumers. Services provided are
based on the belief that treatment is consumer driven and
implemented in the least restrictive manner available. All
behavioral health services offered adhere to professionally accepted
standards and practices and are continuously monitored by the Mental
Health Services Division's quality assurance procedures.
The
Mental Health Services Division offers services to any resident of
Danville and Pittsylvania County regardless of race, sex, age,
handicap, religion, sexual preference, national origin, or political
affiliation.

Community
Support Programs for adults consist of several levels of case
management, rehabilitation services, psychiatric services, community
living services, and supports to consumers with long-term mental
disabilities. The goal of Community Support Programs is to
maximize each consumer's potential for independence, improved
quality of life, and optimum level of functioning.

at Harmony House, the Supportive Employment Program provides
vocational training and work opportunities in a dedicated and
structured program that includes paid work for consumers through
various "contracts" and "for hire"
opportunities on the "work crew." The program also
provides training, assistance with obtaining a job, and job coaching
for those consumer desiring competitive employment in the community.

Provides
the same variety of community-based services found in Case
Management Services. Services are provided by Adult Housing
Specialists at a level of intensity necessary for consumers to
establish an independent residence of their choice in the
community.

Provides education to consumers through
individualized rehabilitation and support plans designed to assist
them to develop, and build upon, existing skills that will enable
consumers to live independently in the community. Skill
building areas include health and well-being, money management,

Services
at Piney Ridge Apartments are designed to meet the
independent housing needs of adults who have serious mental
illness. These are individuals who have had difficulty
living independently and who can benefit from the
availability of 24-hour on-site supervision. The goal of this program is to promote
increased self-reliance and potential for the consumer to
progress to a less supervised setting.

community-based treatment, rehabilitation, and supports
designed to meet the needs of adults with serious mental
illness who often require 24-hour service availability to
avoid hospitalization. Complete wrap-around services
include intensive case management, psychiatric diagnosis and
treatment, medication prescription, administration and
monitoring, substance abuse services, counseling, vocational
counseling, and life skills training.

Clinical
Services programs provide consumers with crisis response, assessment
services, and time-limited therapeutic services. Persons with
mental disabilities can receive a comprehensive assessment to
determine their services needs, and be referred to the services
which best meet those needs. Services are designed to aid
consumers in achieving their highest possible level of functioning.

Intensive
treatment services are provided primarily in the consumer's home in
situations where the child's behavior places them at risk of removal
or when they are transitioning back to their family home from a
residential placement or foster care. Approach to services
includes individual, family, and play therapy; psychiatric referrals
and consultations; medication management; behavior modification;
parenting and communication skills; crisis intervention; case
management; and 24/7 on-call.

Therapeutic
services offered to children through age 18 that can be provided in
conjunction with other services, as a step-down from more intensive
services or separately. Services are provided in the home and
community and focus on developing specific skills, behavior
modification, role modeling, and coaching. Mentors offer
crisis intervention, referrals to community programs, advocacy, and
supportive counseling.

service provides one-to-one assistance to children and adolescents,
aged 15 to 18 years, who meet criteria for Serious Emotional
Disturbance (SED). Mental Health

skills.

The
Support Staff of Danville-Pittsylvania Community Services' Mental
Health Services Division is comprised of five Secretaries, one Data Entry
Clerk, an Office Manager, an Administrative Assistant, and the
Director of Support Services.
The Support Staff is usually the first contact an individual has when
inquiring/seeking services from the Mental Health Division.
Staff greet and direct all consumers and visitors in a friendly and
