Welcome to the
Behavioral Health Services Division

The Behavioral Health Services Division is dedicated to delivering
quality mental health and substance abuse care through a variety of
programs and services aimed at empowering the individual to improve
their quality of life. It is the mission of the Behavioral
Health Services Division to provide comprehensive diagnostics,
treatment, prevention, and community education services to the
individuals of the catchment area.
The
orientation of the Behavioral Health Services Division is to utilize its
resources in ways that are responsive to a variety of community
behavioral health needs and to allow for a wide provision of services to
individuals across the life span. Individuals are assisted
with accessing services which are outside the scope of the
Behavioral
Health Services Division.
The Behavioral Health Services Division provides a continuum of
services from short-term therapy, child and adolescent therapy which
includes 24-hour emergency crisis intervention
services, psychiatric evaluation and medication treatment, through
case management, psychosocial rehabilitation, as well as housing and
employment assistance for individuals diagnosed with a mental
illness, substance use disorder, or a co-occurrence of disorders. This
well organized, highly integrated delivery system serves to maximize
continuity of care to its individuals. Services provided are
based on the belief that treatment is individual driven and
implemented in the least restrictive manner available. All
behavioral health services offered adhere to professionally accepted
standards and practices and are continuously monitored by the
Behavioral
Health Services Division's quality assurance procedures.
The
Behavioral Health Services Division offers services to any resident of
Danville and Pittsylvania County regardless of race, sex, age,
handicap, religion, sexual preference, national origin, or political
affiliation.

Intensive Community Services Programs
for adults consist of rehabilitation services, psychiatric services,
community living services, and supports to individuals with long-term mental
disabilities, substance use disorders, or co-occurring disorders. The goal of Intensive Community Services is to
maximize each individual's potential for independence, improved
quality of life, and optimum level of functioning.

Located at Harmony House, the Supportive
Employment Program provides vocational training and work
opportunities in a dedicated and structured program that includes
paid work for participating individuals through
various "contracts" and "for hire"
opportunities on the "work crew." The program also
provides training, assistance with obtaining a job, and job coaching
for those individuals desiring competitive employment in the community.

Individualized
community-based treatment, rehabilitation, and supports
designed to meet the needs of adults with serious mental
illness who often require 24-hour service availability to
avoid hospitalization. Complete wrap-around services
include intensive case management, psychiatric diagnosis and
treatment, medication prescription, administration and
monitoring, substance abuse services, counseling, vocational
counseling, and life skills training.

Case Management provides a variety
of community-based services designed to respond to the unique
needs of individuals with serious mental illness, substance
abuse or dependence, or a combination of the two. Services
are designed to link individuals with resources in order to promote
community integration and independence while promoting
self-determination and recovery. Progress and stability are
monitored and coordination of services provided.

Oral Healthcare Access

In collaboration with the United
Way of Danville-Pittsylvania County and Danville Regional
Dental Society, this program provides funding for some
high-need, low-income adults with behavioral health
disorders to receive care for untreated oral disease. Case
managers coordinate dental services for individuals identified as without resources to pay
for oral healthcare. This grant program ensures dentists receive
reimbursement for services, ensures appointments are kept,
reduces transportation barriers to appointments, and reduces use
of the hospital Emergency Department for dental care.

Specialized services for postpartum
substance abusing women, their infants, and families. Consists
of Behavioral Health Services, Intellectual Disability Services,
and Prevention Services staff members providing appropriate
education, parenting, networking support services, and hands-on
group and individual assistance to pregnant and postpartum
women, their babies, and their families. The infants may become
consumers of the Infant Care Program. The most important goal
of the Postpartum Assessment Program is to help women and
infants obtain medical, social, and emotional care to assist in
their recovery.

The Adult Clinical Services programs
provide individuals with crisis response, assessment services,
time-limited therapeutic services and supportive community living
services. Persons with substance abuse or substance abuse and
co-occuring behavioral health issues can receive a comprehensive
assessment to determine their service needs and be referred to the
services that best meet those needs. Services are designed to
aid individuals in achieving their highest possible level of recovery.

This service is for individuals enrolled
in services at Danville-Pittsylvania Community
Services who are experiencing
difficulties related to substance abuse or substance abuse and
co-occurring behavioral health issues that
can effectively be treated through use of psychiatric medication. The medical staff provides therapeutic medication
management including psychiatric evaluations, medication
administration, and Community Resource Pharmacy medication delivery.
Medication services are provided as an enhancement to other agency
services.

at Piney Ridge Apartments are designed to meet the
independent housing needs of adults who have serious mental
illness. These are individuals who have had difficulty
living independently and who can benefit from the
availability of 24-hour on-site supervision. The goal of this program is to promote
increased self-reliance and potential for the consumer to
progress to a less supervised setting.

Residential Crisis
Stabilization (RCS) is designed to provide short-term, intensive
treatment to individuals 18 years or older who require
multidisciplinary treatment in order to stabilize acute psychiatric
crisis and prevent admission to a psychiatric inpatient unit.
Individuals receiving services are provided with case management,
therapy and psychiatric care to meet their unique needs. RCS
provides a safe, less restrictive, and supportive alternative to
inpatient care 24 hours per day, 7 days per week for persons
experiencing serious distress and impairment due to a mental health
crisis. A certified pre-screener assesses all referrals prior
to admission and acceptance into the program

Child and Family Services provide
services to children up to age 18 with emotional and/or behavioral
disturbances due to mental health or substance abuse issues. These
services include outpatient counseling, psychiatric services, case
management, in-home services, mentoring and support services for
adolescents. In addition, assistance is provided to youth in the
juvenile detention center, as well as to other off-site agencies.

Case Management Services are designed to assist children and their
family/caregivers to access needed medical, psychiatric, social,
educational, vocational, and other supports essential to meeting
basic needs. Services provided include assessment and planning

services and service planning with other agencies and providers.

service provides one-to-one assistance to children and adolescents,
aged 15 to 18 years, who meet criteria for Serious Emotional
Disturbance (SED). Mental Health Support Services assist older
teens in maintaining stability in their home
and community by providing skills training such as independent

skills.

Case Management and Counseling services
are provided, on site, to juveniles detained at W.W. Moore, Jr.
Juvenile Detention Home. Services include assessment,
individual and family counseling, linking with community services
upon release, psychiatric evaluation and treatment, and staff
training and education.
Intensive Care Coordination
Intensive Care Coordination provides
intensive case management to children and adolescents referred by
the Family Assessment and Services Team due to being at risk of
entering or currently placed in a residential facility. Services
include comprehensive strength-based assessments; identifying
appropriate services and implementing plans of care; coordinating
service delivery; evaluating provider quality and providing on-site
skills.

Services
Provides off-site outreach services to
City and County; Juvenile Court Systems, School Health Departments,
Social Services Bureaus and the Juvenile Detention Home.
Services include basic and intensive substance abuse counseling and
education and case management.
School
Services
Includes outreach counseling and case
management services to referred young people having direct or
indirect family concerns that could lead to substance use/abuse and
manifest in inappropriate personal or school behavior.
Pittsylvania County Public School personnel refer students.

The Support Staff of Danville-Pittsylvania Community Services'
Behavioral Health Services Division is comprised of nine Secretaries,
a Benefits Coordinator, an Office Manager, an Administrative Assistant, and the
Director of Business & Financial Services.
The Support Staff is usually the first contact an individual has when
inquiring/seeking services from the Behavioral Health Services Division.
